Can I write for UTME, a subject I don’t have in SSCE?

The question above was recently asked in our SchoolBegin JAMB Facebook group and we got lots of contributions from other JAMBites and were confused if this is possible or not.

But thank God we could resolve this with them, so I thought I should share it with our readers who aren’t in the group so we can end this confusion once and for all.

If you want to find a detailed answer to the question, I will advise you to read every detail painstakingly. Let’s go!

Your Proposed Course Determines Your Subjects’ Combination in UTME

Before we conclude by giving the direct answer here, It is pertinent to know that it is your proposed course of study that will determine your subject combination and not your Olevel subjects.

I’ll  explain better;

Let’s take an instance; Mathew wanted to study Pharmacy, first he needs to write English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in UTME. That’s the official requirement for Pharmacy admission. Luckily, that matches what he sat for in SSCE and the grades he had.

If however, he wants to study Urban and Regional Planning, according to the JAMB Brochure, his best combination for UTME is Mathematics, Geography, and one of the Economics, Physics, Chemistry.

Can you see this?

Even though Mathew never wrote Geography or Economics in his SSCE subjects, he must sit for Geography (and maybe Economics) in JAMB.

Can I Write For UTME, a Subject I Don’t Have in SSCE?

To conclude on this, YES, you can register for JAMB UTME with the subject you don’t have in SSCE. This is because your proposed course of study determines your subject combination and not your SSCE subjects.
