What are University Catchment Areas?

In Nigeria, catchment areas are the geographical areas from which institutions give preference to students for admission. To break it down a bit, we can also say the geographical areas in which an institution is located.

Every Federal university in Nigeria has its catchment area they primarily serve, This does not mean they won’t admit students outside this catchment area. However, there is a special consideration given to catchment areas.
